Weston Swimming offers training/practice groups for swimmers ages 6 - college. Our coaches provide a positive swimming environment to challenge each swimmer to work hard, have fun and strive to achieve his/her personal goals.

PRACTICE GROUPS (Long Course)
Weston Swimming is organized into four Practice Groups based on the swimmer's ability and
age. At the beginning of each season, the coaches determine Practice Group assignments.
The coaches also determine when a swimmer can move up to the next level Practice
Group. At each Practice Group level, the goals are specific and directed toward meeting
the needs of each swimmer. As each swimmer is different, he/she will progress at his/her
own rate. Set forth below is a description of the Practice Groups:
SILVER TEAM
• Age/Swimming Level: For the swimmer in the first stages of competitive swimming. Swimmers must be at least 6 years of age on this team
• Focus:
Instruction for all 4 strokes, starts, finishes, relays, and the beginning stages of
flip turns
Introduction to the basic rules of competitive swimming
Dryland (introduction to proper stretching) 2 times/week
• Requirements: Swimmer must successfully complete one lap (25yds) of both
backstroke and freestyle; enthusiasm!
• Attendance: Practice is expected 2-3 times/week
Age Group I
• Age/Swimming level: For the swimmer who understands the basics of competitive swimming,
and is beginning to show more commitment to the sport of swimming.
• Focus:
Development of team skills and refining stroke mechanics, starts, turns, finishes, relays, and swimming efficiency
Emphasis on stroke instruction, starts, turns, finishes, relays and other advanced competitive skills. Interval training is introduced to prepare for higher level training.
Increased focus on individual medley (“IM”) work
Dryland (introduction to proper stretching) 2-3 times/week
• Requirements: Swimmer must be able to complete 2 laps (50yds) of both freestyle and backstroke and one lap (25yds) of either breaststroke or butterfly; enthusiasm!
• Attendance: Practice is expected 2-3 times/week.
AGE GROUP II
• Age/Swimming Level: Composed of the most dedicated and skilled swimmers 9 years and older
• Focus:
Fine tuning all strokes, IM, starts, turns, finishes, and relays
Continued development of team concepts and Weston pride
Training and race strategy for a full range of sprint and distance events
Dryland (proper stretching, core work, team building exercises) 3
times/week
Emphasis on sportsmanship, team spirit and Weston pride
• Requirements: Swimmer must have a strong foundation in all four strokes and be able to complete 4 laps (100yds) of each plus a 200 IM; must have attended minimum number of practices in previous groups and have formulated strong practice habits.
• Attendance: Practice is expected 4 times/week. Anything less compromises improvement and jeopardizes advancement to Senior Team.
SENIOR TEAM
• Age: Weston Swimming’s most focused, skilled and dedicated swimmers; for those swimmers 13 years of age and older - must be 13 years old by first day of short course Regional Championships (usually late
February)
• Focus:
Aerobic and anaerobic conditioning
Workouts geared towards championship caliber performance
• Requirements: Swimmer must meet all Gold/White team requirements; must
satisfy Coach’s evaluation of stroke technique and workout habits.
• Attendance: Practice is expected 4 times/week plus 1 morning practice.
Swimmers are encouraged to formulate habits that result in 100% attendance.
The more a swimmer attends practice, the faster his/her improvement will be. Progress is
a direct result of attendance at practice. Set forth below are some keys to assist
swimmers in moving to the next level:

2. Skill shown in practices, meet performance, overall improvement
3. Positive attitude
