Safe Sport

Weston Swimming Inc. is proud to be a SafeSport team. This means that we have adopted the SafeSport guidelines and have been certified as compliant by USA Swimming. Our top priority continues to be keeping our athletes safe. No form of abuse, including child sexual abuse, has a place in our sport.

The U.S. Center for SafeSport (“the Center”) is the separate, independent, organization that oversees all sexual misconduct reports in the Olympic and Paralympic Movement. It created the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP) to set a baseline for acceptable safety standards that limit one-on-one interactions between adults and minor athletes. The MAAPP addresses one-on-one interactions, social media and electronic communications, travel: local and team, locker rooms and changing areas and massages, rubdowns and athletic training modalities. All USA Swimming member clubs are required to implement MAAPP in full.

Training our members in abuse prevention and mandatory reporting is just as important as creating policies. All adults who interact with and have direct contact with minor athletes, must, as per USA Swimming rules, complete Athlete Protection Training. This includes our coaches, volunteers, and all athlete members ages 18 and over. As a matter of best practice, Weston Swimming has also decided to requires at least one parent or guardian per household to complete the SafeSport 'Parent's Guide to Misconduct in Sport' course and all athletes aged 13 to 17 to complete the 'SafeSport for Young Athletes (13-17)' course.
